Description: Giuseppe Apicella is a family owned winery, about 7 hectares of terraced vines located at an altitude between 300 and 600 meters above sea level. The estates is located in Tramonti, the heart of the Amalfi Coast. Giuseppe and his son Prisco work with local grapes (Piedirosso) from their estate vineyards. Piedirosso, also known as “per‘ ‘e palummo”, for the red color of the grape-stalk recalling that of the pigeons’ claw, is a typical variety from Campania. This wine displays garnet and ruby shades with aromas of white/black pepper, red flora, and brambly tree ripe fruit. The palate opens with sour red cherries, and cranberries upfront. Good tannic structure that smooths out on the finish with a touch of white/black pepper.
Food pairing: Hard cheese, blistered vegetables, grilled fish, grilled seafood, charcuterie, peppered steak, tuna, Cajun seafood, curries etc.
