Grape: 100% Cinsault. Region: South Africa> Costal Region. Notes: Vegan. 30% neutral French oak, 70% concrete egg for 12 months. Old vines.
Description: Winemaker Alexander Milner’s grandfather bought the 18th Century farmhouse at Natte Valleij in the late 60’s. Formerly renown for wine and brandy-making, Milner restored the property to its original purpose after studying enology in Sonoma and Provence. Much of the wonder of his wines come from the rediscovered and resurrected old ‘bush’ vines that he found on the historic property.
A light bodied, approachable wine this Cinsault is also well structured and subtle. Red fruit and spices on the palette with some soft-spoken earth notes.
Cinsault was bred with Pinot Noir to create the uniquely South African grape of Pinotage. Here standing by itself in this wine it exhibits a rare depth and elegance more often associated with its co-parent Pinot Noir
Food Pairing: Sausage, soft cheeses (such as Brie), mild cheeses, meats, especially grilled, tuna, duck, white meats, etc.
