Description: LUCA HODGKINSON is a trained oenologist and co-owner of this family estate (with brothers) . The estate was originally built and owned by a Catalan that came back from Cuba. The bottling was named (Mas del Habanero) for the historical influence of the Catalans that migrated to Cuba seeking fortune in tobacco and rum production. There is a musical style that carries this name (Habanera) that is a fusion between the European heritage merged with the Cuban style. Three great producers neighbor the Hodgkinson estate; L’ermita, Clos Erasmus, and Clos Martinet. The wine is a true expression of all the vineyards on their property; it’s complexity is determined by the marked influence of the different terrains, orientations, and the age of the vines and soil. The wine is perfectly balanced without being too heavy or hot. Intense, fresh and complex aromas show hints of tobacco leaves, dark fruit, ganache, and a touch of pepper; once decanted it evolves toward a long, clean, vivid palate, making it a very good wine with or without food.
Food Pairing: Lamb, beef (braised), Cassoulet, cheese (Manchego), duck, game bird, paella, rabbit, swordfish, etc.
