Grape: 100% Semillon Region: Australia> New South Wales> Hunter Valley Hunter Valley, located just outside Sydney, is Australia’s initial wine region, with viticulture dating back to the early 1800s. Its conditions are uncommon amongst wine regions, yet it has produced distinctive & renowned wines. One particular hallmark is its dry Semillons; the varietal seen on its own here thanks to rainier conditions in Hunter valley, instead of blended with sauvignon blanc, as in the white blends of Bordeaux where both grapes originate. First Creek is a family affair: father Greg Silkman runs the business while his daughter Liz Silkman is head winemaker, (with other family members involved). She has garnered a grocery list of awards for her wines. This Semillon is a heavier white, aromatic, even-balanced and silky smooth. It shows some minerality and a hint of citrus, a well-crafted even wine, layered, good for drinking now and able to evolve with age. Food Parings: Seafood, shellfish, chicken, cheeses, white sauces, etc.
