History has seen the San Giusto property transform from 14th century fortress to 19th century monastery to present day winery. Thankfully it may have finally found its calling because the wines produced here are some of the finest on the planet. The estate is located about 20 miles northeast of Siena in the Gaiole zone, one of the southernmost portions of the Chianti Classico appellation.
The 2015 is highly rated among the very best Chianti producers. Glistening garnet color with an expressive wild red berry and floral garden aromas. The palate reveals chewy tannins upfront which offers more structure and long-life. The wine shows a wonderful purity of fruit, good minerality, and balanced acid/ alcohol. This is a wine that drinks well now (2019) but can still hold and improve for the next five years (2019-2024).
This wine will improve with decanting.
Food Pairing: red meats, game, charcuterie, hard cheese, etc.
