Description: Only 500 cases made of this magnificent ancient Nebbiolo clone with expressions I've not tasted from the land of Valtellina. Maybe that is why Arturo Pelizzattis children (fifth generation) are the FORCE in Valtellina. Established in the late 1800's, their forefathers lost some of their holdings through a myriad of obstacles around 1973. Never forgetting the family motto "Il giusto tempo del Nebbiolo" ("The right waiting time for Nebbiolo"), the Pelizzatti family releases the wines when they begin to reach a level of perfection. In 2018 they were awarded the highly acclaimed Gambero Rosso's Vini d'Italia Best Italian Red Wine of the Year to their sister bottling, Sassella Riserva Rocce Rosse 2007. Trust us when we say all of their holdings are phenomenal. The 2009 Vigna Regina exhibits aromas of saddle leather, truffles, and mineral iron. The palate is balanced with integrated tannin, lovely acid/ alcohol balance, and a juicy core. The wine is still surprisingly youthful but elegant with notes of dried rose petal, loam, and blood orange. This is a wine that will drink well for many years to come.
Food Pairings: Full flavored hard cheeses (Fontina, Gouda, etc.), duck (confit), game meats, beef (grilled, braised), roasted lamb, mushroom dishes, truffle dishes, tomato based sauces, roasted boar, rabbit, mushroom risotto, liver, eggplant, veggies, cassoulet, etc.
