Product description

Description: Marques de Murrieta is one of the two oldest houses that produce Rioja wines. Established in 1852 and all the grapes are still sourced from the bodega's own vineyards at Ygay. All the traditional grape varieties are grown (Tempranillo, Graciano, Mazuelo, Garnacha Blanca, and Viura). The wines are aged in American oak for 3 years and another 4 to 6 years in the bottle before the Gran Reserva Especial are released. Murrieta was a leader in using French techniques to develop greater complexity and longevity in Rioja. “At the end, the most important thing in our winery is the vineyard, the Ygay Estate,” -Maria Vargas. 2010 is considered one of the best vintages in Rioja for the last 100 years.

"Marvelous aromas of crushed berries, tobacco, cedar and mushrooms. Some dried cheese. Then turns to flowers. Very complex. Full and intense with fantastic depth and power. It goes on for minutes. It is a wine that exudes tradition but gives a sense of modernity with precise winemaking...." - 99pts. James Suckling
