Grape: Morellino, Ciliegiolo, Alicante.
Region: Italy> Tuscany> Maremma.
Notes: South/ Southwest facing slopes.
Description: The Maremma region is the southermost coastal part of Tuscany, with a different style of life than the central regions nearer to Florence of Chianti and Brunello. Known for its beautiful and relaxing natural hot springs and horse breeding. The version of Sangiovese grown here is emblematic of the vivacious tradition of the people and landscape, on par with world class wines but decidedly their own.
Using grapes from a coastal and lower elevation farm as well as a more typical high-elevation plot this wine called Ventoso (or windy in English) creates a supple, deep, honest wine. Food worthy acidity, even, good body and expressive earthiness. The fruit character is richer and tends more towards plum than cherry and is not dominate on the palette.
Food Pairings: Pork, Wild boar, Italian food, Red meats, Steak, Pasta w/ red or meat sauce, Sausage, Roasts, Vegetables, Rabbit etc
