Description: North of Napa Valley lies Lake County, which Wine Spectator heralded as a lower price alternative to the more prestigious appellation. Six Sigma’s ‘Diamond Mine’ vineyard is named for the distinctive volcanically-formed quartz that makes the earth (rocky and volcanic soil, great for grapes) glisten in the sun.
Six Sigma is the name of a manufacturing philosophy created for industry during the 1980s. It emphasized quality control, fluid system-human interaction and data feedback with customers for decision making. The vineyard owner took what he learned in this field and applies to his winemaking, a surprising move but it works!
