Description: Essencial may be understood as ‘essence’ or ‘heart,’ and the “Essencial” line from Domaine des Schistes is from the heart of their operation. Local grape varietals grown schistous soil. Hillsides surrounded by garrigue herbs. Roussillon is an amphitheater of a region, bounded by the Pyrenees Mountains and opening on the Mediterranean Schist soil imparts lots of dark mineral tone. The nose pulls you in with black currant, leather, and graphite aromas. The palette reveals slightly gripping tannins with garrigue herb, and loam.
