Grape: 100% Rotburger (Zweigelt) Region: Austria> Burgenland> Neusiedlersee-Huegelland. Notes: Biodynamic farming, 8 months in old large barrels.
Description: Distinctive and variable soils are found among the diverse vineyard sites of the estate: from heavy loam containing alternating compositions of clay and limestone, to sandy chalk-free loam, ranging to some very gravelly soils worked by Hannes Schuster and his mother Rosi. In keeping with the old tradition, Hannes and Rosi decided with this vintage to use the original name for Zweigelt, which was Rotburger. Peppery spice on the nose, with sour-cherry and blackcurrant on the palate. Layer of soft clay-like minerality combined with dusty tannins. Medium to full-bodied, excellent food wine and lovely by itself if you like a well-balanced, dark, meaty wine.
Food Pairings: Sausages, grilled meats, bratwurst, hamburgers, shellfish in tomato based sauces, fish stews, etc.
