Description: "...Understanding and working with the vineyard to coax something magical from the land, and caring for and guiding its growth in the cellar is the joy and essence of fine winemaking." - David Trafford
South Africa has some very special, almost Iconic wines if you take the time to sort through the averages. deTrafford is one of them. At the top of a valley above Stellenbosch (380m A.S.L.), situated on Mont Fleur composed of deep red Hutton decomposed granite soil (excellent conduit for Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah), Established in 1976 by the Trafford family, this estate has consistently produced amazing wines.
Deep, dark red colour. Roasted bell pepper, underbrush, and hints of forest floor aromas. On the palate the wine is dry with dusty, integrated tannins. Lovely restrained cassis and black fruit layered over gravel and clay terroir. Delicious plum and black cherry fruit dominate the finish. This wine has exceptional maturation potential.
Best served between 2016 to 2024. Delicious with most red meat dishes, especially roast lamb.
